Connected to the Phoenix-Tempe-Mesa central area by the Highway 202 loop, the city of Chandler is a prominent suburban community serving the Phoenix metropolitan area. Bordered by Tempe to the north and west, Mesa to the north, and Phoenix to the west, Chandler and its 250,000 residents enjoy upscale living close to their workplaces and schools nearby. Intel and Orbital Sciences Corporation both have large facilities in Chandler and are the area’s two largest employers. Nevertheless, most residents work in the Phoenix central business district.

The Chandler Ostrich Festival is an annual event that pays tribute to the city’s history of ostrich farms. Historically, the city used to cater to the demand for the plumes incorporated in women’s hats. Prior to this, Chandler was strictly agricultural with its main crops being cotton, corn, and alfalfa. The Chandler Center for the Arts is a 1,500-seat facility that serves as a regional performing arts venue. Chandler is also home to the Arizona Railway Museum.

Residents of Chandler take comfort in knowing that several conveniences and amenities can be found locally and within a few minutes’ drive. The Chandler Municipal Airport receives no commercial service but is an excellent field for pilots in training as well as recreational flyers. On busy weekends, the airport sees dozens of aircraft movements. The Chandler Regional Hospital is located in the middle of Chandler and provides an exceptional medical experience for people of all ages.

For Chandler’s residents interested in shopping and running errands, there are three major plazas located in the vicinity. Waterfall Shopping Center, Chandler Fashion Center, and the Boardwalk at Andersen Springs each offers a number of stores, restaurants, and small boutique shops. For residents in search of larger retailers and brand name stores, a quick drive into Phoenix is quite easy. A bit farther away from the core of Chandler are Sun Village Fair and East Valley Plaza & Mall. The San Marcos Country Club, Folley Park, Pima Park, Arrowhead Meadow Park, Navarette Park, and Gazelle Meadows Park are open recreational areas that provide excellent coverage to residents.
