Fountain Hills Real Estate Information

Fountain Hills is just a few miles east of Scottsdale and is a relatively removed community relative to the rest of the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. The town neighbors the McDowell Indian Reservation and has a population of more than 25,000 people. Between 1990 and 2000, it was ranked as the eighth fastest growing town in the entire state of Arizona.

The area is named after a large fountain that spews water 562 feet into the air once an hour throughout the day. Each fountain blast lasts about fifteen minutes. The fountain was built in 1970 by Robert Mcculloch and was tied to the construction of the London Bridge in Lake Havasu City. The spectacle is actually quite amazing and can be viewed from the Charles W. Juels’ Fountain Hills Observatory that is nearby. Today, Fountain Park remains the town’s largest attraction and is actually noted worldwide as the fourth tallest fountain on earth.

Culture and town togetherness are both important to residents of Fountain Hills as well as the social fabric of the area. Interestingly, residents put on the only Thanksgiving Day parade west of the Mississippi River. The celebration includes bands, marchers, dancers, and spectacular floats and balloons. Fountain Hills also sponsors two large annual fairs in town, the first being a local art fair that displays the works of town artisans in a variety of media. The much larger Fountain Hills Great Fair incorporates both an art fair, musical performances, and a carnival.

The students of Fountain Hills are served by the Fountain Hills Unified School District that operates two elementary schools, the Fountain Hills Middle School, and the Fountain Hills High School. Residents also have the option of sending their children to a charter school that serves grades K through eight. For residents looking to get outside the expansive McDowell Mountain Park is nearby for adventure seekers looking to explore the wilderness, hike, mountain bike, and camp. For the more refined golfing community, Fountain Hills has three golf courses, including Sunridge Canyon Golf Club, Eagle Mountain Golf Club, and Desert Canyon Golf Club.
